
THe Story of The Vigilante Cannibal Nun

THE BODY & BLOOD is a 19th Century Irish Famine Folk Fable told in verse in five episodic films. It is an original idea written, priduced, designed and performed by the artist CAROL MURPHY (see the films below). It is the Story of Maggie Murtagh, an Irish country girl who transmogrifies into The Vigilante Cannibal Nun during The Famine. She steals from the rich to give to the starving poor. She eats the colonisers; becomes an addict; and destroys her soul.

THE BODY & BLOOD was launched online on 10th January 2022. The first live performance was at The Black Box, Belfast, on 15th May 2022. Murphy toured the show in 2023 and brought it to VAULT Festial, London; The Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival, Belfast; The Courthouse, Bangor; The Lyric Lounge, Belfast; and Smock Alley Theatre, Dublin.
Murphy then created a body of songs about The VIgilante Cannibal Nun and performs them in venues in Belfast. In September 2024 she laumched The Vigilante Cannibal Nun AS Agony AUnt Podcast.
